TDI CCR Nitrox / Helitrox
TDI CCR Nitrox / Helitrox Training in Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia & Delaware
TDI CCR Nitrox / Helitrox expands closed-circuit rebreather training beyond air diluent, introducing oxygen-enriched and helium-containing diluents for deeper, more demanding dives.
Southern Maryland Divers trains CCR Nitrox and Helitrox divers from across the Mid-Atlantic with an emphasis on disciplined planning, helium management, bailout strategy, and calm execution in real-world conditions.

What Is CCR Nitrox / Helitrox?
CCR Nitrox and Helitrox courses extend CCR capability by introducing higher oxygen fractions and helium into the diluent gas.
Helium reduces narcosis and work of breathing at depth, but it also increases planning complexity and demands stricter control of oxygen exposure, decompression strategy, and bailout planning.
What You’ll Learn in CCR Nitrox / Helitrox
- Advanced diluent selection and gas planning using nitrox and helitrox
- Managing narcosis and work of breathing at increased depth
- Bailout gas selection, volume calculation, and contingency planning
- Decompression planning concepts specific to CCR
- Failure recognition and disciplined response under higher task loading
The emphasis remains conservative decision-making and repeatable procedures — not pushing limits.
Is CCR Nitrox / Helitrox Right for You?
This course is appropriate for CCR divers who:
- Are fully comfortable with CCR Mod 1 procedures and checklists
- Can maintain buoyancy, trim, and awareness while task loaded
- Want to extend depth capability conservatively
- Understand that helium increases planning discipline, not forgiveness
This is not a course for divers who are still building basic CCR habits.
CCR Helitrox Training for Mid-Atlantic Conditions
Deeper Mid-Atlantic dives often combine cold water, limited visibility, current, and surface conditions that amplify task loading.
Training here develops CCR divers who can manage helium-based dives calmly and deliberately when conditions are not ideal.
What Comes After CCR Nitrox / Helitrox?
CCR Nitrox / Helitrox prepares divers for deeper mixed-gas CCR training and expedition-style diving.
- TDI CCR Trimix
- Advanced wreck and expedition diving
- Unit-specific advanced CCR training
CCR Nitrox / Helitrox FAQs
What’s the difference between Nitrox and Helitrox?
Helitrox includes helium to reduce narcosis and work of breathing at depth, while Nitrox diluents do not. Helitrox requires more advanced planning.
Does this course include decompression?
Decompression concepts are introduced as part of planning and execution, but limits depend on prerequisites and instructor guidance.
Is helium expensive?
Yes — which is why efficient planning and disciplined procedures matter.
