Equipment Service & Maintenance

Equipment Service & Maintenance

At Southern Maryland Divers, your safety starts with your gear. We take equipment service and maintenance seriously because even the best divers rely on properly cared-for equipment. Many diving incidents and close calls happen when gear is overdue for service or hasn’t been maintained correctly.

To keep your equipment performing flawlessly, we recommend annual inspections and a complete rebuild every two years or every 100 dives—whichever comes first. Regular service not only protects your investment but also ensures every breath underwater is smooth and worry-free.

Our certified technicians service all makes and models of regulators and BCDs, using manufacturer-approved parts and procedures. Drop your gear off with us and dive with confidence knowing it’s been serviced by professionals who care as much about your safety as you do.

We proudly service all makes and models of regulators and BCDs, providing expert care that helps you dive with confidence.

Service Turnaround & Priority Options

Our typical turnaround time for equipment service is 20–30 business days (excluding weekends and holidays). We always aim to complete work as quickly as possible, and most services are finished sooner.

However, due to ongoing supply chain challenges, delays can occasionally occur if replacement parts are on backorder. To avoid any issues, we strongly recommend bringing your gear in for service well before your next dive trip.

For divers with upcoming travel, we offer Front-of-Line Service. This priority option moves your regulator set to the top of the queue. While we can’t guarantee completion before your departure—especially if parts are delayed or the regulator requires extensive work—we’ll do everything we can to get it ready. If it’s not finished in time, we’ll provide a free rental regulator set for your trip.

Tank Inspections & Hydrostatic Testing

Tank Inspections & Hydrostatic Testing

At Southern Maryland Divers, your safety is always our top priority. Scuba tanks must receive a Visual Inspection every year and a Hydrostatic Test every five years to remain compliant and ensure dependable performance.

We handle all tank inspections, cleanings, and hydrostatic testing in-house with a fast turnaround, so you’re not without your tanks for long. If your tanks are in for hydrostatic testing, we’ll provide free rental tanks to keep you diving without interruption.

All inspections are performed by our PSI/PCI-certified cylinder inspector, ensuring every tank meets or exceeds industry standards.

*All tanks made of the 6351-T6 aluminum alloy must be tested using an eddy current testing machine per federal law. These tanks were made by Walter Kidde (years 1972 thru 1998), Luxfer (years 1972 thru May 1988). We will notify you if your tank falls into this category. Due to the very risky nature of these cracks / tanks, we will not service or fill them.

Want to make sure your tanks stay in tip top shape? Check out this article on cylinder care.

Gas Fills & Blending

At Southern Maryland Divers, we guarantee clean, pure, and accurate gas fills every time. Our commitment goes beyond equipment maintenance and precision—it’s about the personal care and attention each fill receives from our expert blenders.

From Nitrox to Trimix, every blend is performed by certified Gas Blender Instructors who follow strict quality and safety standards. You can trust that every tank you fill with us meets the highest levels of accuracy and purity.

Air Quality & Standards

At Southern Maryland Divers, we take pride in providing the cleanest, highest-quality breathing gas available. From medical-grade oxygen to 99.99% pure helium, every fill meets the strictest purity standards—so you always know you’re breathing the best air possible.

Our Mako K14 compressor is meticulously maintained according to manufacturer guidelines. We use Lawrence Factor high-quality filtration to deliver OCA Grade E “hyper-pure” air, ensuring every tank meets or exceeds industry standards.

To verify quality, our air is sampled and analyzed quarterly by Trace Analytics. Click HERE to see our latest test results, or check it out in person, we have it hung on the wall next to the compressor!

Fast & Accurate Fills

At Southern Maryland Divers, we know your time is valuable—and no diver wants to spend the night waiting on tanks. That’s why we focus on fast, reliable turnaround for every fill.

Air and 32% Nitrox fills are typically completed the same day, custom Nitrox, and trimix fills are usually ready within two days. When you request 32% Nitrox, you get exactly 32%—no guessing, no shortcuts.

We take pride in accuracy, double-checking every blend to ensure you get the mix you requested and the performance you expect.
