Southern Maryland Divers has been hosting group trips to the beautiful island of Roatán, Honduras for more than a decade, and it continues to be one of our favorite destinations. Incredible diving, a beautiful all-inclusive beachfront resort, warm Caribbean water, healthy reefs, abundant marine life, and a fantastic value make this one of our most popular trips.

For 2027, we're returning to the beautiful Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort for another week of diving, relaxing, exploring, and enjoying everything Roatán has to offer.

Why Roatán?

Roatán sits approximately 40 miles off the Caribbean coast of Honduras and is surrounded by the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world.

The diving here is exactly why we continue to return: warm Caribbean water, beautiful coral formations, walls, swim-throughs, abundant tropical fish, and frequent encounters with turtles, rays, eels, and other Caribbean marine life.

On our previous trips, we've encountered at least one sea turtle on virtually every dive, and the condition of the reef continues to impress us year after year.

Whether you're an experienced diver or this is your first Caribbean dive vacation, Roatán delivers.

What About Safety?

We hear this question frequently:

"Is Honduras safe?"

It's important to understand the distinction between mainland Honduras and Roatán.

Roatán is a Caribbean island located well offshore from mainland Honduras, and tourism is one of the island's primary industries. During our many years of traveling to Roatán, our groups have felt comfortable both at the resort and while exploring the island.

As with any international destination, normal travel awareness is always appropriate, but concerns about mainland Honduras shouldn't automatically discourage you from experiencing Roatán.

Not a Diver? You're Still Invited!

You absolutely do not have to be a diver to enjoy this trip.

The Mayan Princess sits directly on one of Roatán's beautiful Caribbean beaches and offers multiple pools, including a huge lagoon-style pool that's perfect for spending the afternoon relaxing near the bar.

Want something more adventurous than a beach chair?

Roatán offers plenty to do, including:

• Zip-line and canopy adventures
• Jungle and island tours
• Monkey and sloth encounters
• Snorkeling
• Shopping
• Off-resort excursions
• Restaurants and nightlife
• Beach hopping
• Or simply doing absolutely nothing with a cold drink in your hand

Divers can spend their days underwater while non-diving spouses, friends, and family members enjoy the resort and island—and everyone meets back up afterward.

This is a true all-inclusive group vacation

Once you arrive, most of the major expenses are already taken care of. Your package resort accommodations, airport transfers, meals, drinks—including alcoholic beverages—and your diving package. Optional group airfare will be available for an added expense soon!

Optional Dive Upgrades

Optional upgrades are paid directly at the resort.

Shark Dive — $148.50 per person

Want to add a little adrenaline to the week? Add Roatán's famous shark dive to your itinerary.

Nitrox Upgrade — $148.75 per person

Upgrade your diving package to Nitrox for the week.

Nitrox certification is required to use nitrox.

Additional dives and other diving activities may also be available through the resort depending on scheduling and availability.

Deposit & Payment Schedule

Space is limited, and reservations are secured with a deposit.

Book By March 31, 2027

$1,000 per person deposit

Your deposit reserves your spot on the trip.

April 1, 2027

An additional $1,000 per person is due for guests who have already booked.

For new reservations made on or after April 1, a $2,000 per person deposit is required.

April 1, 2027 is also the final date to cancel and receive a full refund.

After April 1, refunds will only be issued if your reserved space can be filled by a standby traveler or you provide another full-paying traveler to assume your reservation, subject to the terms of the Southern Maryland Divers travel contract.

July 1, 2027

Final payment is due.

All remaining balances must be paid in full by July 1, 2027.

New reservations made on or after this date require payment in full at the time of booking, subject to availability.

Travel Insurance — Strongly Recommended

International travel involves expenses that may become non-refundable as the trip approaches.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for every participant.

Coverage may help protect you from certain unexpected circumstances involving trip cancellation, interruption, medical emergencies, baggage issues, travel delays, and other covered events depending on the policy selected.

Travel insurance is available through DAN (Divers Alert Network).

We recommend purchasing coverage shortly after making your initial trip deposit, as certain benefits may depend on when the policy is purchased.

Travel Contract

A signed Southern Maryland Divers Travel Contract is required for every participant.

The travel contract contains the complete terms and conditions governing deposits, payments, cancellations, refunds, participant responsibilities, and other important trip policies.

Your reservation is not considered complete until all required documentation and deposits have been received.
