PADI Tec 50 Course

PADI Tec 50 Course in Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia & Delaware

PADI Tec 50 completes the TecRec 40–50 pathway and qualifies you to plan and execute extended range technical dives to a maximum of 50m / 165ft with multiple decompression stops using up to two decompression gases.

Southern Maryland Divers trains Tec 50 divers from across the Mid-Atlantic with a focus on precision, calm execution, and repeatable procedures in real conditions — cold water, reduced visibility, and real task loading.

Training Location: 23950 N. Patuxent Beach Rd, California, MD 20619  |  Phone: (443) 295-3225  |  Web: www.SoMdDivers.com

What You’ll Learn in Tec 50

Tec 50 builds on Tec 45 and trains you to execute deeper, more complex decompression dives with tighter control, stronger team protocols, and more advanced gas planning.

  • Planning and executing multi-stop decompression dives
  • Using up to two decompression gases and managing gas switches with discipline
  • More advanced run-time planning, contingency thinking, and problem management
  • Stable buoyancy/trim while task-loaded (valves, slates, DSMB, failures)
  • Team procedures, communication, and emergency response under pressure

Is Tec 50 Right for You?

Tec 50 is for divers who already have stable fundamentals and want the autonomy to execute deeper decompression dives with strong procedures. It’s a good fit if you:

  • Have completed Tec 45 and can hold decompression stops precisely without sculling
  • Can maintain trim and awareness while managing failures and task loading
  • Want to dive deeper wrecks and expedition-style sites with trained teammates
  • Prefer conservative planning and repeatable, disciplined execution

If buoyancy/trim aren’t automatic, fix that before Tec 50 with Peak Performance Buoyancy.

Tec 50 Training for Mid-Atlantic Conditions

Mid-Atlantic technical diving often means cold water, reduced visibility, current, and changing surface conditions. Those realities increase task loading — which is exactly why Tec 50 procedures must be clean and repeatable.

Training here produces divers who can execute decompression dives calmly when conditions aren’t perfect, which translates directly to offshore wrecks and expedition diving.

Training Materials

Tec 50 uses the Tec Deep Diver Crew-Pak (and related planning tools) to support decompression procedures, emergency protocols, cylinder handling, and gas planning. Contact us if you need to order materials prior to training.

Tec 50 FAQs

What’s the difference between Tec 45 and Tec 50?

Tec 45 progresses your decompression training using a single decompression cylinder. Tec 50 completes the entry-level technical pathway and prepares you for deeper, more complex dives with multiple decompression stops and up to two decompression gases.

How deep does Tec 50 train to?

Tec 50 qualifies divers for extended range dives to a maximum of 50m / 165ft when planned and executed properly, following training standards and conservative procedures.

Do I need special equipment?

Yes. Tec 50 requires a full technical configuration and disciplined equipment consistency. Your instructor will confirm required and recommended gear before training so you’re set up correctly.
